Someone Like You: A Novel
Science raises questions only love can answer in this moving and thought-provoking novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of “heart-tugging and emotional” (Romantic Times Book Reviews) life-changing fiction.
One frozen embryo. Two families with life-long secrets. And a guy who never planned to fall in love again.
Maddie Baxter West is shaken to the core when she finds out everything she believed about her life was a lie. Her parents had always planned to tell her the truth about her past: that she was adopted as an embryo. But somehow the right moment never happened. Then a total stranger confronts Maddie with the truth and tells her something else that rocks her world—Maddie had a sister she never knew about. Betrayed, angry, and confused, Maddie leaves her new job and fiancé, rejects her family’s requests for forgiveness, and moves to Portland to find out who she really is.
Dawson Gage’s life was destroyed when London Quinn, his best friend and the only girl he ever loved, is killed. In the hospital waiting room, London’s mother reveals that London might have had a sibling. The frozen embryo she and her husband donated decades ago. When Dawson finds Maddie and brings her to Portland, the Quinns—her biological parents—welcome her into their lives and hearts. Maddie is comforted by the Quinns’ love and intrigued by their memories of London, who was so much like her. Is this the family and the life she was really meant to have?
Now it will take the love of Dawson Gage to help Maddie know who she is...and to help her find her way home.

Another Masterpiece by Karen Kingsbury
Even though the circumstance at the core of this book is not familiar I definitely found myself swept into the story. As always the reader is transported into the mind and heart of the characters. She is excellent at bringing twists and turns into the story. I definitely recommend this book and author. This book is a stand alone. There are some characters from her other books but it is not necessary to have read her other books to enjoy this book. Looking forward already to the next book.
Cliche
Is it just me or are Karen Kingsbury book following the same cookie cutter format lately? Did I enjoy the book overall? Yes? Will I but the next book? Not sure.
Someone Like You
I loved this book and I can't wait to see what will be the next story involving the Baxter's. I hope there is a follow-up book about Dawson and Maddie. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves to read. I couldn't put this book down. Read it in one day. Thanks Karen Kingsbury for another great book.
Grab a Tissue. A wonderful Story!
I love Karen Kingsbury books and I have nearly all of them. This is one of my favorites, but I didn’t think so at first. In the beginning Maddie seemed like an immature and self centered 22 year old. (I still think she might have been). A stranger informs her that her parents are not her biological parents. She does not believe this for a minute and tells them of the conversation. However they admit it is true. The fact is her mother used in vitro fertilization in order to become pregnant with Maddie. Maddie becomes extremely angry and leaves home, her fiancé and her new dream job to find her biological parents and a sister she didn’t know she had. She believes her whole life was a lie and will never forgive her parents. The stranger who shared the news with her was her sister’s boyfriend. This is who she contacts and runs to in order to get more information. He also is a devout Christian the same as Maddie. The rest of the story is about the information she learns from him about her sister and her biological parents. In the end she does reunite with her family. She learns what true family means and how to forgive. And that God is always with us no matter what. She also matures a lot. There are lots of tears but also lots of love and joy. And God reigns through it all. A wonderful story that can be read as a stand alone book even though it is involves the Baxter family.
Wow
Interesting read. First if all, I always love KK's writing style, including italicized comments from the Holy Spirit that the character can "hear". Also, she inputs Scripture throughout the storyline.appropriate to the moment. This novel is full of comments the reader can use in witnessing to whomever the Lord sends across the path. And He does do that. KK's many novels I have read have enabled me to minister to many. Back to Someone Like You: the storyline is new to me. Because of that it took me several pages to digest the impact in vitro fertilization may have on the lives of all involved. Emotional adjustment can run the gamut. In the end, God, if allowed, can use it for His purpose. KK has woven this into the storyline masterfully, creating a roller coaster within the reader's emotions. I am blessed to read another of her novels enlightening me on the social issues impacting our lives today.
A book for many people!
This is a book written with God's guidance and love. I never knew much about adoption of embryos, this is talked about here. Who 're really the parents and for heaven's sake tell the child she or he was adopted..This is good for sisters, grieving people, Christians, families and grandparents. I really could not put this book down. I started it yesterday ans finished today. God could speak to many different people thru this book. Thank you for writing it.
I couldn’t put it down!
Karen Kingsberry has long been my favorite author! She had me hooked from the first sentence in “Someone Like You.” I never tell the story in my reviews, but in this book all the characters live and work through real life issues. It is one of those books that you won’t be able to put down. Another good one! Way to go, Karen!
I was sad when it was over
Karen Kingsbury is the BEST writer with the best stories that keep my faith flexing and me inspired! There is always a plot line that is so uncontrived and not your normal formula where you already know the ending! It also makes you think. You know that question people ask? Why do bad things happen to good people? Well, Karen Kingsbury always has a message about how God uses even bad things in His plans. I am a firm believer that we are in a fallen world and that God allows free choice and so we have pain and suffering but He hurts with us and can always make something good come from the worst situations and sometimes the lessons are our blessings. I hate spoilers so I won't even share the story but I must say I was sad when it was over. But in Karen Kingsbury style I am hoping for a sequel to this Baxter Family book. My only request would be more MP3 availability so I can listen to more when I am on my commutes!
Too Much Drama
I enjoy Karen Kingsbury's books but found myself disliking the main character in this novel, based on her actions after finding out about her origins. In addition, I could not buy into the motives or legality of Dawson's plans to find Maddie. Just a bit "stalker creepy" in my book. However, I love the faith and prayer that is so constant and evident in the Baxter clan and their friends, but they seem to get themselves into so many pickles because they react with such insane drama!
A Journey into New Territory
Karen Kingsbury sets a love story with messages of forgiveness and trust into a science setting. Rather than tackling the ethical or technical aspects, Kingsbury accepts it for what it is and deals with the broken relationships in the Baxter family. While it was a page-turner, I kept feeling like important steps in Maddie's journey were missing--that of dealing with the method of her inception and the sense of rejection from her biological parents. Bravo to Kingsbury for setting this story in the emotional desire for a family.
