Do it yourself screen door!
I traditionally left my sliding screen door open to let my puppy go outside, but Spring sprung and brought flying pests that have tried to move in with me. This pet screen door was a golden find! You do have to actually cut your screen, but it's well worth it. The instructions are a bit complex for what is actually a simple install. There's two parts - a pet screen door and a back panel for the other side of the screen. When these two sides clasp together, it provides support for the structure. I bought an Exacto blade, taped this pet door (the side with the flap) to the screen, and used the blade to cut the screen directly into the grooves where the pet door clasps together with the back panel. Voila! The trickier part may be helping your pet understand how to use the door, but there's a great tutorials online. Simply, we tied the flap open until our pet became comfortable with the door, and then got her used to going through and letting the door hit her back.

Simple, practical design
I bought this to install in a pet proof screen so I had to install it differently than intended. The product would normally snap into place gripping the screen. I have no idea if it does that but I believe it probably would have, had my screen not been extra thick for pet scratch proofing. So what I did was drill holes for machine screws. The intended action of gripping the screen is held secure by the screws. It works really well. My suggestion to this company is to make that an option so people don't have to diy it, though it was pretty easy. If you have a pet and have a pet door in your screen, you're probably also going to want a pet proof screen! I like the product and I gave it 5 stars though I do think there could be some improvements. For one, the screen material on the door could be the pet proof/scratch resistant material like my big screen and sometimes the lock feature switches by itself. I'm not sure how that happens but perhaps that could be improved? Also, if I had poor eyesight, the tiny latches would be hard to see especially in low light. Maybe they could be another color? If you have this problem, just use some white nail polish or a dab of white or neon acrylic or latex paint to brighten the tiny knobs so you can see them better. It took about a week for my cat to fully understand the door. Since then, it has solved the issue of having to open the screen door every time the cat wants to go on the deck to watch birds. Which is every 10 minutes of course!

Install Flash Player I got tired of opening and closing the door for my yorkie. If I left it open flies found their way in. I purchased this pet screen door hoping it would help and I couldn't be more delighted. Works perfectly for my little dog and it was easy to install. Once I taught her how to use it, I can now simply open the screen door and let her come and go as she pleased! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

rambunctious dog I think it could easily tear this door right through the screen--but you must ...
Worked as expected. Thanks to the other reviewers tips, I pre-drilled holes in the four corners and screwed the two sides together for more support/strength before cutting out the screen opening. I don't think it would have worked otherwise--the two halves just "clicking" together with the plastic inserting into the other side would not be strong enough to stay in place for very long. But for the price and totally using the screws to secure, it works perfectly for my two small dogs (10 & 15 lbs. respectively). For a larger, rambunctious dog I think it could easily tear this door right through the screen--but you must also consider a screen is pretty fragile for a determined animal, so not necessarily a fault of this product. But it worked perfectly for my use and small, docile dogs.

Great product, and makes my life easier
I've purchased several of these over the years for different houses. I install them in a screen window so the cats can go in and out (onto our screen porch) as they please. I also attach "Duck Brand Window Shrink Insulator Film" over the window screen and the cat door flap so that I can leave the window open during hot/humid or chilly weather. I only have to shut the whole thing down when it's really cold. The cats like being able to go in and out, and I like that I don't have to be their doorman. The Pet door itself is easy to install into the screen and has always held up very well under constant use. The cats figure it out very quickly.

Great product and easy to re-install.
I looked for a few years for a cat door to put into a window screen for my cats new catio I was designing for outside my bedroom window. I ordered this one and had a new window screen made for my window. The cats learned really quickly to use the screen and were soon popping in and out of the house with ease and much to their delight. By the time fall came around they were running in and out of the door chasing each other. Unfortunately this loosened the door to the point that it popped off. I still give it 5 stars though as all I had to do was remove the screen and position the doors frame on the screen and tap the frames with a hammer (protecting the door with a slim piece of wood). The door is back in place and ready to be used this spring.

Great Product!
This door has worked out well for our 21 pound havanese. He fits through it just fine. He loves it and learned how to use it within a day or two with some practice with treats. My husband did reinforce it with four nuts and bolts (one in each corner) as recommended by other users. It was pretty easy to install. We've had it over a month now and our dog uses it constantly throughout the day to go out on the deck and we've had no problems with it. Great deal for the price! The only problem will be when it gets cold and the slider needs to be kept closed...puppy is getting spoiled with this freedom!

Great product!
We originally had the smaller size door for 4 years and it worked great. Recently, my dog who is a little bigger now than when we first purchased the door, came blowing through the door in excitement and the plastic pins that the door swings on broke. We knew it was a little small for her now so there is no fault on the door itself. We looked at the other options on the market since it had been a while and we still decided to stick with the tried and true Petsafe door. We ordered the next size up and it has been working as promised. The only negative I have is that it takes a bit of a jiggle to get it locked. We never used to use the lock, but now that we have a rabbit that likes to follow our dog outside we started using it. This is overall a great buy. For size reference, my dog is a 20 lb cocker spaniel.

Love this clever pet door!! It's far better quality than I expected, especially for the money. Just the perfect thing for our dog since we have no other options for a doggie door. The hardest part was taking our screen door down (recommended for better installation)........We did reinforce it in the corners with some screws and nuts as other buyers had mentioned they'd done. Once I get up the courage to tackle taking our other screen door down, I will be adding a second pet screen door.

Perfect for a metal patio door
Perfect for our metal patio door. Husband used 4 screws to attach it the door. Could of maybe used a little bit bigger door size for my 14 pound dog, but she fits thru.
